Prom 2015

Yep...another Prom in the books.  You do realize that this was Y1's JUNIOR prom.  Which means that next year, it will be his SENIOR prom...with graduation about two months later.  Stop it!  I can't talk about it!!!!  My baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After attending last year's prom, we decided that we'd definitely do a dinner party at the house.  Last year's was so much fun and what a cool idea!  I guess in bigger cities, where the restaurant options are a little more varied, a dinner party at home might not even be considered.  We live in SMALLtown...and it's a lovely place to live, but the choices for special occasion dining experiences are limited...and that's being generous.  So, for a year, I've been planning and dreaming and obsessing about what to do.  Those of you with the genetic predisposition for event planning will understand that perfectly.  Those of you without it, well, just keep reading.

It all started with the tux...the midnight blue tux.  I found it online and knew that nothing else would do.  Thankfully, Y1 agreed.  Check out the company: theblacktux.com  .  They were very easy to work with, online, and when I called them, they were wonderful.  They even called me, before it shipped, just to double check his measurements.  They shipped it right to our door...fit like a dream...and I'll ship it right back to them this week.

I wanted to make the décor at the house match the Prom's theme.  First reports were "Fire and Ice."  I was not thrilled....it's one of those concepts that can go cheap and tacky in a skinny minute.  'Bout drove myself crazy (er) trying to figure out how to make that work, until I finally decided that we'd focus on one or the other.  SO much easier and then the ideas began to flow.  AND THEN....Y1 comes home and says that the theme is "Elements in the Night:  Fire and Ice."  HUH?????????????  What does that mean????  How do those two even match????  They don't...so I took "Elements in the Night" and ran with it.  Stars, moons, planets...black, blue, silver, white!  Glitter, sparkle and shine!!!  Tulle and white lights on anything that didn't move!!

Y1's date is a friend from Mr. Cathy's Chicken Shack.  They work together and they have a sweet friendship.  She goes to the county high school and is a senior.  And as you can see....she's a beauty!  She's also made of some pretty tough stuff.  Two different hairdressers cancelled on her...TWO!!  The fastener that held the back of her dress together also decided to cancel it's obligations!  Thankfully, another stylist showed some decency and fixed her hair...my needle, thread and a safety pin took care of the lazy fastener.  Here's something funny...his tux was called "Midnight Blue" and her dress...."Dark Sky!"  Talk about "Elements in the Night!"

Dinner....she's gluten free...doesn't eat red meat, doesn't like tomatoes....and the list goes on.  But she's very sweet about it.  The red meat and tomatoes are easy to work around...the gluten free is a little trickier.  A little investigation and research and the menu turned out pretty well.  Notice the stars and moons in the salad....yes...I went there...I made theme shaped veggies!

Everything should end on a sweet note....the dinner last night and this post...so here you go.
