The World's Smallest Light Show

It took place in our backyard, Sunday night.  I had sent a text to our 'round the corner and football carpool neighbor about the morning ride and she responded with this:

"Ok!  Go look outside.  The lightning bugs are amazing!"

And they were!  It was crazy!  I must have disturbed them when I walked out onto the deck.  It took me a minute to see them and then all of the sudden, they were everywhere.  Everywhere, all at once.  We could hear neighbor and her family through the "woods" that sort of join our backyards.  In the fall and winter, we can see clear to their house...not so much at this time of year...rather jungle-ish back there.  Y2 came outside with me and called through the darkness to our friends...who, being the polite and mannerly folk they are, answered his call.  What, you didn't realize that polite and mannerly folk call to each other through the "woods" at night?  But of course!!!  At first, it was just simple greetings and then it turned to funny words as echos..."Baloney-loney-oney!"

I've always loved watching fireflies.  There's something sort of magical about those little points of light in the darkness.  One lights up and the other answers.  Another lights up and another answers.  It got me thinking about our lives, as Believers.  When folks see our light, are they drawn to it because they know it to be honest and genuine and sincere?  Are we looking to shine our light for the sake of self  or do we shine to let our fellow light bearers know they aren't alone?  One lightning bug on a dark, summer night isn't any big deal.  The literal hundreds that showed out in our "woods", Sunday night, was something spectacular!  One Believer is hard pressed to make a difference in this world.  This group of Believers who are willing to be the feet...joined with another group willing to be the prayer warriors...joined with another group willing to provide the financial resources...no earthly force can stand against it!

Can you imagine what that light show must look like from Heaven's point of view?
