If It Was Your Child...

This is probably going to be one of the shortest blogs I've EVER written.  Mark it down on your calendars; it doesn't happen often.  Here goes:

There are some who feel the actions taken against Penn State and against Joe Paterno (posthumously) are out of order.  Some are saying the punishment is disproportionate to the crime.  Jerry Sandusky has been tried and convicted.  Joe Paterno is dead.  What does tearing down Joe Pa's statue accomplish?  What good can come of all the sanctions and penalties levied on Penn State by the NCAA?

Before you answer, think about this...what if it had been your child?  If your child had been one of the victims, would you be satisfied with, "I told my boss and he said he'd take care of it."  If one of these children had been yours, wouldn't you expect more than that?  If it had been you with knowledge of such evil doings, would you be content to follow the chain of command?  How far would you go?  If it was your child, you'd stop at NOTHING to make sure that no other child ever had to endure such horror ever again.  One child is one too many.

My child, your child...doesn't matter.  The children in our lives have the right to expect us to go to the ends of the earth to protect them from the Jerry Sanduskys of this world.  This means sacrificing your own pride, your own ego, your own interests because it is the right thing to do.  The truth can be an ugly, unruly beast...keep it caged up and the ugly gets uglier.  I'm sorry for Penn State...I'm sorry for Mr. Sandusky's family.  I'm sorry for Joe Pa's family.  All the good that has been done by this university, by that football program is forever sullied because of lack of perspective.

So, I'll ask you again...what if it had been your child?
