Christmas Caroling....Day 7

I guess this would be a good time to ask you if you have ever been caroling?  Have you?  We used to go a lot when I was a kid.  The extended family always got together at my Granny's on Christmas Eve.  By extended, I mean Granny's siblings (and their children) and a few of her cousins and there were some relatives from Papa's side.  We'd eat (DUH...we're Baptists) and carry-on and then it would be time to spread Christmas cheer around the neighborhood.  This entailed suiting up in anything and everything that would offer protection from the cold of a Michigan winter night.  To be frank, I don't remember any of my childhood Christmases not being blanketed in snow.  It was just a given.  Up Granny's street and back down...really, no more than a block.  We were always so loud that we didn't have to stop at every house.  We could stop between houses and catch a few on either side of us.  We were loud...but always on key.  Pretty much all of us can carry a tune...and without a bucket, too!

The last time I went caroling, it was with a group from our church in RollingHills, GA (SHOUT OUT TO THE VILLAGE!).  It was an annual event at the church.  Soup supper and goodies before heading out to various parts of the community to share the love.  We visited one of the area nursing homes and sang a little bit there and then we stopped at one of the large gas stations in town.  We stood next to the church bus and belted out a few numbers.  Hey...the Bible says "Go...to the uttermost parts."

Here's one of Mr. Snark's favorite songs.  He loves him some Karen Carpenter.  I do, too...she was an alto...what's not to love?  It was a sad day when her life ended...she was SUCH a talent.

A lot of artists have recorded vocal versions of "Sleigh Ride" but I have to say I much prefer the straight up instrumental rendition.  It makes me smile!

And when it's done by The Boston Pops, under the direction of John Williams....what more do you need!?

  1. Karen Carpenter was indeed a wonderful artist...beautiful voice and a true talent that didn't need to "fancy up" a song...she just sang it.
