Last Weekend's Wedding

Here are some of my favorite moments from last weekend's wedding.
  • The manager at Fresh Market offering the MOB (mother of the bride) fourteen dozen roses at the price of seven when it was realized that the order was never made...and it wasn't realized until the MOB and the B arrived at the store to pick up their original order!  Hooray for the store owning up to the mistake and making the effort to rectify the situation.
  • The best man explaining to one of the ushers that seating the guests is like parking cars...fill it up front to back...he totally understood that!
  • GREAT BBQ from Jim & Nick's for the rehearsal dinner...got some good bark!  YUM  (For those readers uneducated in the ways of BBQ, the bark is that outer crust where all the seasonings are and it makes me drool like Pavlov's dogs to think about it!)
  • The A/C unit didn't freeze up overnight!  The church's A/C system is working at half capacity because one of our units took a lightning strike and we're waiting on the insurance and estimates and blah-blah-blah!  Finding that fans were moving when I got there Saturday morning was a VERY good thing!
  • Working with two families, the bride's and the groom's, who were so chill and so considerate!  Seriously, if all the families I work with would be this easy....talk about a dream!
  • All of the sentimental touches....the garter that the bride wore that had been worn by her mama and her grandmama; the other garter that the bride wore that would be passed down to her little sister; the broaches belonging to the bride's grandmama and her sisters being pinned to the ribbon's of the bride's bouquet; the bride's little sister...as the maid of honor...wore a dress that their grandmama had word fifty years ago when she escorted Liberace into a local concert hall; the goblet the bride and groom used for their Communion Supper during the service was also used by the bride's grandmama at her wedding.
  • Watching the nearly 80 year old caterer give her crew the business when they wouldn't do as she had instructed them...that's me in 40 years!
  • Explaining to a group of guests that the table they were trying to sit at was the return table for the dirty dishes!
  • Watching as said group of guests put their own table up in the hallway...and then bowing my head to pray that the ground in cake and cracker crumbs would be easily eliminated by the vacuum.
  • My first sip of pink lemonade at the reception...AHHH!!!!
  • The circle ceremony!  The bride's sorority sisters put her in the middle of a circle and sang to her.  I started BAWLING...so fast and so profusely that my pianist friend was scrambling for napkins that I could uses as hankies!
  • The groom's cake....it was chocolate...'nuff said!
  • The bride...a vision of sparkly, silvery loveliness!
  • Seeing the MOB realize that her little girl was all grown up....it was time for her to be seated...ahead, of course, of the bride's entrance..."But I can't leave her!  Oh, gosh!  I don't know if I can leave her!  Oh, wow!"
  • The bride forgetting to push the "door open" button on the elevator before the door closed on her!
  • Hearing the bride say that she'd like to call her 15-year old self and tell her to pay attention to that boy who asked her to the prom...pay attention to him, to that relationship...because they end up getting married six years later!
  • Watching the FOB step away from his daughter, having voiced his blessing and placing his daughter's hand in her groom's ...and realizing that his job as her father...to be her protector and her provider is now another man's responsibility.
Have I mentioned that I LOVE my job?  I love being the wedding coordinator for my church.  I'm telling you, the best seat in the house is at the back of the church!
